{"id":26230,"date":"2020-06-25T14:38:08","date_gmt":"2020-06-25T14:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saharafootball.net\/?p=26230"},"modified":"2020-06-25T14:38:08","modified_gmt":"2020-06-25T14:38:08","slug":"caf-consider-postponing-afcon-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saharafootball.net\/caf-consider-postponing-afcon-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"CAF to consider postponing AFCON 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>CAF to consider postponing AFCON 2021<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>The Confederation of African Football will consider postponing the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations if it becomes impossible to honor the competition in January and February of next year.<\/h3>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7515973527815049\" data-ad-slot=\"5197133662\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nCAF has suspended the qualifying events for the competition until at least September.<\/p>\n<p>And with the coronavirus pandemic forcing the postponement of major sporting events across the globe, there are doubts the biennial competition will come off\u00a0 in Cameroon as scheduled.<\/p>\n<p>The CAF General Secretary, Abdel Muonaim Bah, says the continent\u2019s football governing body is considering different options for the competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we cannot play the AFCON in January, February 2021, obviously we have other different options.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first one could be to play during the summer of 2021, but the main issue will be the weather condition in Cameroon; we know that it could be very challenging.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe other issue is to postpone it for one year and so to play in January, February 2022,\u201d Abdel Muonaim Bah said in an interview with Cameroonian journalist Njie Enow of CRTV.<\/p>\n<p>CAF has already indicated intention to\u00a0conclude the qualifying series\u00a0for the competition by November 2020.<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear the decision on the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which were also scheduled to begin in the October FIFA international break with match day two of that qualifying series slated for November 2020.<br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7515973527815049\" data-ad-slot=\"5197133662\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7515973527815049\" data-ad-slot=\"5197133662\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br \/>\nCulled from CitiSports<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CAF to consider postponing AFCON 2021 The Confederation of African Football will consider postponing the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations if it becomes impossible to honor the competition in January and February of next year.
